Ranked #2599 - Men's Rain Jackets
October 21, 2005
Mountain Hardwear Epic has proved to be exactly what I wanted. I spent a long time looking at what jackets were on the market. I wanted my jacket to be lightweight for AR use. I feel the cold more than most and I wanted a jacket to act as a shell even when its not raining. But I needed the jacket to be well ventilated so I could regulate my temperature easily without having to stop moving. I wanted practical pockets big enough to hold a topo map, and a hood that protects my whole head, not just half of it. I also wanted it to be high visibility, for inner-city cycling in Auckland, NZ (not a cycle friendly city, yet). And I wanted all that at a price that wouldn't ruin my finances. I've used my Epic jacket a few times now and it has proved to be exactly what I was looking for. Most notably, I wore the jacket throughout an adventure race in crazy weather conditions; it couldn't make up its mind between rain, hail, sunshine, and winds gusting to 100kph. The jacket kept me dry and at a comfortable temperature from start to finish. I'm very pleased to own this jacket. It is an excellent piece of equipment.
