Ranked #2557 - Men's Trail Run Shoes
October 20, 2005
I ordered this boot for hiking challenges. I was looking for something more than a trail running shoe (I am not much of a runner) but lighter than a boot.
I got a size 9 shoe. It was very comfortable, and definitely very light. Perhaps an 8.5 might have been a better fit, but I could not get over the quick-lacing system. Yes, it is convenient, but I found that I could not lace the toe mid-part of the foot as tightly as I'd want, and my foot would slide forward too much, especially on steep descents (and I'd get a black toenail).
Because the hiking I practice takes me into rugged terrain quite a bit, I ended up getting a Vasque Catalyst Mid GTX XCR. A tad bit heavier, but the lacing is more adjustable in my opinion. Had the lacing on the Salomon Super X been the same as the Vasque Catalyst's, I would have stuck to the Salomon.
