Ranked #46 - Men's Down Jackets
February 8, 2012
Needed a replacement for a patagonia down sweater jacket and tried out a couple. I have settled on this spyder piece because it does what I want - provides that instant warmth. It's not as light or compressible as the down sweater (along with all similar jackets from various makers), but it's still lightweight and does compress very well. It's definitely more durable. I like that the hand pockets are fleece lined. The cuffs are a bit of a mystery though, they are tapered toward the thumb so they fit nice, but have no closure at all. Works nice for layering under a shell, but in all other instances I think I would prefer something at the wrist - elastic, velcro, etc. The styling (not that it really matters) is sick - The jacket might be a tad larger when compressed and have a few extra ounces, but I stand out from the rest of the ultra light down sweater crowd with this spyder.
