Ice Tested

By Backcountry.com Employee December 21, 2011

I bought these gloves as a thicker warmer ice climbing glove alternative to my Marmot Amphibian glove. While they are thicker they are not necessarily warmer, at least for actual ice climbing. They are much too bulky to fit in the leashless ergonomic handles of my Petzl Nomics. After climbing a pitch of ice my hands were numb and I had a severe case of the screaming barfies. They are however a great second set of gloves for belaying and repelling. The gloves are thick enough to keep your hands warm but still thin enough to have sensitivity for rope handling. A feature that I like of these gloves is the strip of leather across the palm, which again was great for control while belaying and repelling in cold conditions and will probably help with the life of the gloves.
