Gear Review
Pretty Good
By Peter Kirk
Ranked #35 - All Mountain Skis
December 5, 2011
Overall, this is a good ski. On groomers turning was easy and carefree and I felt comfortable at speed. On moguls and through crud they handle well and can hold an edge nicely due to quite a bit of sidecut. A lot of camber means that you can pop smoothly and take the occasional park lap. However, skiing powder is another story. Unless you ski very aggressively in anything deeper than a few inches these may be a handful. At 88mm in the waist and only a minimal amount of rocker, I can't fully trust these skis in anything deep. But for days when fresh snow is scarce, this is my go to ski for just about everywhere on the mountain.

I demoed the Lord at Whistler on December 17. Conditions were spring-like due to higher than normal temperatures. On the softening blue square runs, the 87mm wide Lord made acceptable turns, was forgiving and stable at speed, but my overall impression was that it lacked personality. The next ski I took out was the Atomic Crimson Ti. The Crimson has everything the Lord lacks. The slightly wider (88 mm) Crimson is stiffer and more demanding but if you are willing to work it, you get a crisp, fast ride, nice carved turns, and a big grin on your face. Small bumps that I rode over calmly with the Lord became jumps to get some air off with the Crimson. The Lord is a very competent ski and does what it is supposed to do, but sometimes you just need a little spice.
