5 Star Rating

Not the smallest or the lightest but a great tent.

By Ranked #357 - 3-Season Tents October 16, 2011

After reading reviews of this tent, I picked it up on sale for around $125. I've used this tent primarily for bicycle tour/camping and I've found that it doesn't pack down the smallest. A previous reviewer described the face of it as "dinner plate" sized which is about accurate. I'm not a stickler for weight, but I've heard of lighter tents out there. Others have complained of ventilation problems, but sleeping with your head by the door will solve them. That said, this tent has exceeded my expectations time and again. It sets up in a flash and if nice weather is to be expected, you can leave the fly off. I'm 6'6 and have plenty of room inside and there would be room for another, though it would be tight. The vestibule isn't huge (likely can't use it for cooking or other activities) but you can store smaller gear there for some extra leg room. My biggest concern is keeping dry and The Grand Mesa 2 has withstood rainstorm after rainstorm without leaking a drop. I keep a ground cloth inside for extra protection but I'm not sure I need to. The total rain fly is a nice feature too, one more measure against the elements. Overall, a great tent!
