Ranked #46 - Men's Down Jackets
August 14, 2011
I bought this as a possible replacement for an aging patagonia down sweater jacket. Same 800 down fill, construction is no better or worse. The material of the diez is supposed to be more durable and "down proof", making it harder for feathers to poke through, but it's only used on the outside of the jacket leaving the inside still susceptible to leaks. I haven't had much an issue with durability or down leakage with the patagonia anyway, and the outside of the diez is super shiney to the point of detraction (color: black). It lacks an inside pocket as well. As my patagonia still has some life left in it, I won't be keeping the diez and will keep looking. It's a fantastically warm, light jacket but with so many contenders in the super-light 800 fill down jacket category there is no reason to settle on this one if you don't absolutely love it.
