Great trail barefoot shoe

By Backcountry.com Employee July 5, 2011

I've been running barefoot for a long time (2 years?) Probably logged 500+ miles pure barefoot and another 500-1000 in shoes such as the Vibram Five Fingers and these Merrell Trail Gloves. Barefoot is great, but I really need some protection in the Rockie's. There's lots of rocks around here. ;) The Vibrams provide the closest thing to real barefoot, so I love them for that. But I've also injured my toes in them a few times. The Merrells protect your toes much better. The Vibrams are also harder to fit since they are toed. These have just a slightly thicker sole than the Vibrams. I feel like they give a lot of the barefooting benefit, but when I'm 10 miles out in the middle of nowhere, I don't have to worry about getting injured and not making it home. :)

I normally wear around a 10.5 and that's what I got in these, so they're reasonably true to size. My friends told me they had to size down a bit. Definitely don't size up. :)
