Terrible Gate Action

By Ranked #3 - Carabiners, Quickdraws, and Belay Devices May 25, 2011

The size is ok, but the gate action on these is terrible. Unless you push really hard the gate opens barely enough to squeeze a rope through, and even that requires more effort than any other biner I have. I haven't used these yet, but I'll probably stick them on the bolt end of some quickdraws. I think clipping a rope into them would suck, but it they'll probably be OK for clipping a bolt.

unless you have the finger strength of a newborn, the clipping on this biner is easy and mechanically very sound - but on the other hand i don't know how hard is "really hard" for you. i can see, however, if you had really thick sausage fingers, clipping a rope (depending on your clipping style) can be inconvenient, but by no means difficult.
