The North Face Thunder Down Jacket - Women's

just not warm enough

By Ranked #1041 - Women's Down Jackets February 16, 2011

I am 100 lbs, 5'3". Got the XS. Absolutely loved the color, chevron stitching, comfort, fit, and weight, but I have lightweight wool sweaters and windbreakers that are warmer. I have worked and played in all sorts of climates down to negative 40F (neg 80F wind chill), and had two other down jackets over the years, but the description of "you’ll be prepared for subzero temperatures" and "will work as your outer layer in crisp, cold weather" didn't hold up for me. I wore it over a heavy cotton t-neck and was chilled in seconds out in 50F with a 10 mph breeze, and the narrow elastic cuffs don't keep the draft out. Don't expect it to cut the wind. Will keep you toasty as an under layer, but that defeats the purpose of having such a stylish lightweight go-to jacket. If you run more warm or plan to always be active, you might like it. Sad, but just not the value I needed. Sincerely appreciate the return policy.
