Good substitute

Ranked #339 - Men's Rain Jackets
January 4, 2011
A recent trip out west almost turned sour when I realized I had left my shell at home. With a chance of rain and winds in our hike/climb forecast, my only choice was to find and purchase a new shell. I chose the Precip for a few reasons: 1) My Precip pants have proven themselves in modeate to heavy rains and 2) a lightweight, inexpensive shell with pitzips was a must. XL fits my 6' 2" height great and the jacket completely covered my size L Mountain Hardware Monkey Man fleece, keeping the heat in during moderate winds and 30 deg temps. The 13" open length pitzips vent nicely, and the jacket shrugged off a light rain, as I knew it would. Jacket hood covers my climbing helmet with ease, and I found no abnormal issues after wearing it with a large backpack. Overall, Marmots Precip jacket makes it a good lightweight pick or backup shell.
