I'm 185 lbs, 5"10, solidly built. I went w/ a large after trying on numerous different Marmont coats at the local REI (I normally wear a medium when it comes to winter gear).
I was a little disappointed at first with the sizing as I felt I was swimming in the jacket but after putting on a layer or two it fits wonderfully. The only complaint I have is in the sleeve length... I don't have monkey arms and the sleeves could use to lose an inch or two in my opinion.
This coat breathes fantastically and has the option of traditional pit zips (no lining) and after opening the breast pockets there are internal vents.
As for the helmet question: Absolutely helmet compatible. I think part of my initial review on sizing had to do with the size of the hood. I really had to dial in the hood before the coat wanted to fit properly. I wear a helmet but don't like the hood up and found that the hood fit well behind the helmet also.

What is the outer fabric of spire? Will jacket handle aggressive body carving while skiing? I own fulcrum jacket (which seems to be spire jacket plus some insulation) and it seems to be too light to be pushed to the ground, unless it is 50cm covering slope :)
