Broken Beaver-tail Clamp/Tail Piece
By Tim F
Ranked #107 - Telemark Bindings
December 27, 2010
I had these professionally mounted and adjusted for my boots. After less than one day of skiing the beaver tail clamp broke off and sent the tail clamp flying. I was happy I was at the resort base and not touring with these "durable" and "indestructable" bindings.
For the few runs they made it through before breaking they were great. Very active even in the least active pin position.
I'm hoping this is a freak occurance, but if you're touring buy some tails from the 22Designs website for your repair kit, you will need the right size hex wrench to change out the piece.

I had the same problem a couple times. It is caused by the heel piece being too far back. The heel piece interferes with the beaver tail when you release the binding. Move your heel piece forward and you will fix the problem. BTW The Axl is an awesome binding and 22D sent me replacements parts no problem. Great customer service.

My beavertail broke also after purchasing these last season. I ski K2 Paybacks with a Mens T1 boot, and I am 5'5 and 140 lbs. Luckily I was skiing Blue Sky Basin at Vail and not in the backcountry. I ordered replacement parts from 22 Designs and now keep an extra beavertail and hex wrench in my repair kit for backcountry trips...
