Ranked #250 - Women's 3-in-1 Jackets
November 28, 2010
I bought this coat last spring. I didn't feel like I could write an accurate review until we experienced real winter weather together. After a week of daytime highs below zero, I can officially do that. Before I start talking about the negatives, I'll say that it is totally waterproof - people have asked me if it is Gortex. I wear the shell for a rain coat. The shell and liner together also make an adequately warm coat, for not being down-filled. It is my go-to coat when it is really cold outside, which is pretty often here in southwestern Montana. I used it this weekend sledding and found the cons: 1. Velcro. My scarf gets stuck to it (along with lots and lots of dog hair). I'd much rather have snaps. 2. Pit zips. They're missing!! I absolutely would not have bought this one if I had noticed that it didn't have pit zips. The temperature can literally vary 50 degrees at the same altitude around here, and if I'm going up or down a mountain, it gets downright crazy! Pit zips are necessary! 3. The powder skirt kind of rides up, but at least this coat has a powder skirt, so I can't complain too much about that. 4. The top-of-the-coat-face-covering part. I have kind of a small neck and I only have one chin. That being said, when I'm wearing a scarf, I really have to struggle to zip the thing all the way up. When it's -20 degrees outside, that's a big problem.
Overall, it's a good everyday coat. If I ever do any wintertime back-country stuff around here though, I'll have to get something different.
