I stumbled upon the Varius line of North Face Gear a couple years back in Utah. I picked up the jacket and the pant from the Backcountry store as my luggage didn't arrive, I didn't want to splurge in case my bag came through, but I didn't want to wear jeans and a garbage bag either. A load of that famous Utah snow arrived before my bags did and the Varius gear did its job and has continued to do it's job in the Cassiars and in the Rockies. The pants are nice and light and roomy enough to wear a layer or two underneath, but have an athletic cut so you won't be mistaken for a wannabe park and piper. I now use these for skiing the resorts and have my bibs, yes that bag eventually came, for heavy powder days or the backcountry.
