Ranked #67 - Men's Hiking and Climbing Pants

Really- convertible pants are damn great for hiking/backpacking. Hitting the trail hard- zip off. Arrive at camp- zip on. Hanging around the rocky shore or beach- zip off. Leave and grab din din with friends at a nice place- zip on.
The thing is that for some reason I've found most convertible pants to be awkward in size. Usually too baggy and sloppy. Darn silly lookin'. I have a pair of White Sierra- eh- baggy as heck man. They hold up alright but just stupid lookin' I'll wear those when I know I'll be trompin' through some serious burr patches- cause if they get shredded to poop- fine- screw 'em. I have a pair of Cabela's that I've had for 4 years. Great stuff- perfect fit and they have taken some serious lickins' Too khaki for me- so I'll wear those for serious Hiking/ backpacking. Cargo ockets a lil uncomfortable when stowing goods though. I'm not into the wilderness chic crap that North Face has- when I see everybody and their brother's momma wear North Face I just laugh. Should be the national uniform for the movie "Idiocracy"- seriously- sit somewhere and count how many stupid North Face garmets you see- Jeeezuz people.
I got some serious North Face expedition gear- good stuff- BUT I Will REFUSE to wear that Chic Wilderness crap!! I'll look like the rest of the dull individuals. But shoot man- these pants ROCK! I wear them ALL the TIME. BOMBPROOF, comfortable (although weird sizes- be careful try on if you can- I am a 31' waist 32" length 185 lb dude at a height of 5'11 and the small regular is the greatest fit ever) cargo pockets comfy too when stuffed. Thank god the logo is subdued as opposed to all their other stuff where the logo screams for attention. Hell- I don't even mind if peeps notice because it is serious gear. Get some. The DWR works great, dries fasssst and breaths beautifully. Zips are sound and color coded. Built in belt is the best (not perfect) I've seen on convertible britches. Great for travel. Really- get a pair- actually- don't 'cause I want to be the only cool cat sportin' this The North Face garb.

HAHA! Great review! I actually did a report for a sociology class on how outdoor gear was becoming high fashion. It is ridiculous to sit on a college campus and see how many people have on outdoor brands that never camp/hike/paddle/climb/etc... well you get the picture. The stuff does look good, but the stuff is meant to be used! So get out there and explore if your gonna buy the gear!
