I own 3

By Ranked #456 - Headlamps October 12, 2010

I love this headlamp so much, I own 3. I actually bought a whole bunch of them from SAC, and gave them to my family (all big adventurers) for presents, and every time this pops up again, I am so tempted to get a bunch more. I keep one with backpacking gear, one in my tool box (like the other reviewer, very handy while working on the car) and the third is in my daily "man-purse" that I bring with me everywhere I go, at all times.

This light is tiny, but super bright (assuming you have good batteries), and I almost always have it on the dimmest setting or on the fast strobe to save on battery life, and these settings are plenty bright. Speaking of battery life, the four CR2032s last a really long time in this light. I use this as my headlamp for riding my bike at night, and probably use it 3 or 4 times a week for 15 minutes at a time. I've had that light with those batteries for about a year and have never had an issue, rain or shine (well, not really shine since I use it at night, but lots of rain!), but I should replace the batteries.

This is an ultralightist's dream lamp. Its really tiny and really light weight. As far as I've looked, it is one of the brightest lights ounce-for-ounce, and I can't imagine needing anything brighter or longer lasting, so why would you go bigger (or more expensive)? Before I bought this, I used a buddy's Petzl e+LITE on a touring trip, and although I loved that light, especially the red reading light, this one is brighter, longer lasting, and cheaper, and at hardly a hit on weight.

I do agree with the other reviewer that it can be a bit strange to use. The button is in an awkward location and there is a cast ring of light that is seen out of the corner of your eye which can be a bit distracting. But in the end, this is an awesome light and I love it at any price. One note though, if you go to the store and buy a pack of four CR2032s, it will cost you more than buying a new light, which comes with batteries. Buy new batteries online (ebay or something) in bulk that way you have them lying around, or just buy a new light from Back Country.
