I would describe it as an insulating vest with attached soft shell sleeves, shoulders, and hood. Pit zips are great for dumping small amounts of heat. My favorite Mammut piece that I own. and unlike other companies with a cross over insulating/soft shell jacket this one actually looks good and holds up well.
