Ranked #65 - Men's Rain Pants
August 19, 2010
I have both the Typhoon jacket and pants- and wore them on a recent trip to climb Mt. Rainier. They work well as a super lightweight and waterproof shell layer - not to mention windproof. Keep in mind these are a bare-bones shell - no lining or insulation. Also I know GoreTex is supposed to be breathable- but not really- so don't be surprised if you find yourself sweating up a rain forest inside. There are side zips on the pants so you can vent them appropriately. I previously had the MH Pinnacle Pants and traded them in for these because the Pinnacle only had ankle zips and the Typhoon's have 3/4 length zips. Let me tell you- it's so much easier getting the Typhoon's over a pair of double plastic boots. The Pinnacle also had built in boot gaiters- but considering I was always wearing mountaineering gaiters over them I didn't need them. I prefer the weight savings of the Typhoon pants which are 7 oz. lighter. My only complaint is that the Typhoon pant is not sized well for use as over-pants. I'm a 36 waist so I originally got the large. They were way too tight over my softshell pants. So I had to return them for an XL.
