The North Face XTC Lightweight Tight - Men's

Great baselayer

By Ranked #278 - Men's Long Underwear July 10, 2010

I wore those on a recent climb of Mt. Shasta. The temperature hovered around 35F most of the day, but we saw sustained winds of 40MPH with gusts upwards of 60MPH. The winds actually turned us back about 100' below the summit on the north side. I'd estimate wind chill in the single digits. While this is definitely a lightweight baselayer it did admirably in these conditions. I wore these and shell pants with no other insulating layer. On top I was wearing a base, windproof fleece and waterproof shell, but on breaks would always break out the down jacket to keep from shivering, but my lower half stayed comfortable. On the descent it began to warm and I had to shed the fleece layer up top as I was noticably heating up, but again my legs stayed comfortable as this "tight" did a great job of not overheating my legs. I'm not quite 6' and 190 pounds with a 34 waist and I wore size Large. It doesn't fit me like a tight, a little roomy, but I'm actually more comfortable with the fit than I think I would be in a Medium, although I believe a Medium would work on my frame as well. That's an issue of preference. My old bottoms were a tighter fit (different brand) and I always felt awkward and uncomfortable in them.

Highly recommend, especially at the price!
