Not for Heavy Duty Use

Love Marmot Brand (have one of their tents and 3 UL down bags) and love their customer service response but....this jacket is NOT for serious backcountry use where you could run into heavy and/or extended rains. I contacted Marmot about the problem and they suggested washing with powdered (of course) or gear specific detergent. They even sent me the special wash and DWR spray. Next heavy rain, the jacket worked for an hour or so then started wetting through where pack straps ride. Very frustrating for someone who is will to do multi-day backpacking trips in inclement weather. Not specifically dishing on Marmot PreCip line as other brands have same issues with some of their waterproof products. Bottom line...if want waterproofing you can depend on, no matter how hard or long the rain, go ahead and spend the bucks on Gore-Tex.
