By Ranked #279 - Men's Technical Sandals June 21, 2010

Everyone said that these are the only sandels to get, so I gave em a try. I tried very hard to like them, but they just weren't right for me. I bought these for canyon hiking. I found the soles grippy and durable, but didn't like anything else about them. The soles are kinda stiff - probably good for average hiking, but on rocky terrain they were not flexible enough. As far as technical sandals go they're heavy - ridiculously so for a sandal. I tried for weeks to adjust the sandals but never go the straps to stop cutting into my feet on anything longer than a half hour hike. The idea of one strap running through the whole shoe sounds nifty, but doesn't make any sense. If you want to adjust one part of the sandal you end up having to adjust the whole thing. I re-adjusted again and again and never could get them compfortable. Also, walking through the water with them felt like dragging big flippers through the water. If you are taking the few steps between the shore and the boat, you'll never notice it, but if you're walking for a couple of hours through streams it gets annoying. I saw a lot of reviewers who say that they wear the chacos all day long. For casual wear like getting in and out of the boat or looking outdoorsy while sitting in the coffee shop these are probably fine, but I can't recommend them for technical hiking.
