Louise, After living in Hokkaido for two years, I would definitely say this jacket will serve you well in Japanese pow. Depending on the time of year you go, the snow is usually very dry and light, and although i can't speak to this women's jacket, i loved having puffies while riding all winter. Ganbatte!
