Soles split with surprisingly little wear

See my photo!
I used the boots for about 10-15 hikes of about 10 miles each and they were very comfortable boots or so I thought. I loved them at first.
Then quite suddenly the right and left boot developed a split across the ball of the foot. The right boot literally fell apart underneath me (see photo). The leather shows almost no wear and the Vibram soles are less than half worn.
Vasque told me I was out of warranty so I should try the store (the hikes were over a 14 month period).
I'm only sorry I recommended these to several of my hiking friends.

Scary! I just bought some and used them on a 13 miler. I brought my old boots in case I got blisters breaking them in, but didn't need them. I hope mine don't break like that. Vasque should stand by their product. The name is on the shoe. This story is going to be told and told, and if they replaced them, that story would be told and told. What story does Vasque want out there?
