Mad Rock Con-flict Climbing Shoe

By Backcountry.com Employee April 13, 2010

The new Science Friction rubber is about the stickiest I've ever used. MR also retained the heel from the Hooker shoe, which I have always liked, though I'd say these size a bit bigger than the Hooker (11 street shoe and 10 in this shoe was the right size for me and I could only size down 1/2 size in the Hooker). Out of the box, I'd say this is my favorite shoe for bouldering and sport climbing.

However - the shoe is not nearly as durable as the offerings from Sportiva, Scarpa, Boreal, et. al. Neither the rubber nor the upper seems to have held up very well at all. I'm about at the end of my Conflict's life after 1 season and it's not going to be a resole. If you buy new shoes every six months or so, this is a great option, but the durability problem is a big issue for most of us.
