Looks Cheap, Feels Cheap

Ranked #434 - Stuff and Compression Sacks
April 3, 2010
Haven't used camping yet but here's what I can tell you. Every night before I go to sleep I stuff my long 0 degree bag in the medium sack. Then I crank down the straps wondering how many times I will be able to do so before they snap. Like I said it just feels cheap and if it breaks I would rather it do so in the house not the trail. There is a drawcord around the opening with the smallest stopper I've ever seen ('bout the size of a bean). Because of it's size it won't keep the opening closed. Again, cheap.

I've been using my size medium on a 25 degree bag for 3 years cranking on the straps pretty hard every time and I have never had an issue.

Just to speak to BlackCoffeFix's concerns about the sacks looking and feeling cheap, I have been using the same small stuff sack for my 10 degree bag (It's a really tight fit) for about a year without any issues. This includes fairly strenuous use with climbs all over the Alps and Western United States. That being said, I definitely agree that the draw-string stopper is too small for it's use, but again, I'm stuffing a 10 degree bag into a small stuff sack.
