Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero Down Jacket - Men's

Excellent jacket -- shedding down the only problem

By Ranked #1772 - Men's Down Jackets February 12, 2010

I'm 5'9", 145 lb., and medium was the size to go with. It could stand to be a tad longer(I notice this about MH clothing), but in my case it worked.

I read all the rave reviews and picked this one up expecting a lot--it got tested through temps that were in the 20s to low 30s in NYC during Christmas time. It delivered. I did need to wear some layers underneath, but my torso and arms were just about never cold. You really appreciate the pockets in that type of weather.

Almost from the beginning(and I guess this is the problem with every down jacket out there), there was some shedding of down, and it continued with use. I was only walking around, too--I wasn't doing any rugged activity. That's the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars. I guess it's not too big a deal in the grand scheme of things.

This jacket looks great if you don't mind the puffy look; it's also super light and can double as a blanket if it gets cold on the plane. I can definitely handle 20 degree weather A-OK. I didn't dare go out there with just a T-shirt and this over the top; maybe I should have to see.

A solid choice for a winter jacket. I had no issues when it snowed as well; I was constantly shoving the snow off, so it didn't get a chance to dry and get into the jacket. I think it's slightly water-resistant, but don't wear this during a downpour.
