Sweet little lightweight

By Ranked #486 - Kayak Accessories January 26, 2010

This is a nice little lightweight knife.

It took a little while to figure out how to manipulate this little guy quickly but once you do it is FAST. A previous reviewer got it right on that you just pop the tab at the rear of blade and "throw" the blade out with a flick of your wrist. It's faster than a switchblade.

The problem is the knife is so small that in order to push that button easily/quickly you have to either have a really limber opposable thumb (some of the reviewers might have an issue with not having all the proper chromosomes/ancestry required for an opposable thumb -LOL) To really do it fast you need to choke up on the handle so the rear tab on the blade is in the middle of your palm so you can reach it easily. This gets easier with only a little practice unless you have two left hands. It would be easier if you had a lanyard tied to the big hole in the back of the handle which would give you more to grip onto. But that is a personal thing. I don't much like a lanyard most of the time on an EDC pocket knife.

The nice thing about this knife is that is a real lightweight. I wouldn't think it would be a good working knife as the blade is very thin and delicate. As a box-cutter/opener it would do just fine though. It's also great for you crazy lightweight hikers who think everything is too heavy and pay $100 on titanium to save an 1/8th ounce in your pack.

At a 2.25" blade length this knife probably won't get you in trouble from the local constabulary if they get their panties in a bunch about someone carrying one of humanities most basic tools (tools separate us from the beasts IMHO). Just don't demonstrate how DARN FAST you can open it as they might think it is a switchblade. the fact that is hard to master will go in your favor here if a cop wants to give you a hard time. Hell, he (or she) probably won't be able to figure out how it opens at all.

Some of these knives had a little problem with handle screws backing out. A drop of threadlock fixes that. Isn't technology great? Doesn't everyone have threadlock in their tool box? Not a big deal if you ask me as long as you know about it before you lose the itsy-bitsy screw.

This is a nice EDC knife for when you are casual or wearing a suit and don't want a heavy lump flopping in your pocket -or in a city where a larger knife will get you arrested.
