This is my go to hard shell jacket. I live in washington state, where it rains like 9 months out of the year. I have used the Alpha SL here at home as well as in Costa Rica during their rainy season, where torrential downpours are a daily occurrence. There are times when i wish for hand pockets, but this jacket keeps it simple. Think Occam's razor.
