I did some research when I first bought this, which I've mostly forgotten, but what I can say is that I love using it. It's versatile, with the two beams; it doesn't feel particularly heavy; and I have no idea about battery life, but it certainly doesn't eat batteries. I left it on a picnic table in VT...and then bought the same one as a replacement.
Note: the specs say that it doesn't have a tiltable housing, but that's not true - it definitely angles down. You can see the pivot point in the photo.
