Ranked #777 - Men's Hiking Boots

I was ready to return this boot to Backcountry.com after the first day in Morocco's Sahara. It suddenly changed shape, crunched my toes and gave me a toe blister. Then I realized the fine Sahara sand goes right through the airy mesh, filling up the space between the syn-leather upper and the Goretex sock. Once I realized I needed to whack the bulk of the sand out each day, the boots were fine.
For non-Sahara applications, this boot is amazingly supportive with a stiff sole that belies its very low weight. I'm still trying to figure out the fatal flaw in this "too good to be true" story. Other than four days in the Sahara, I've only done a few small dayhikes with the boots. So far, they are wonderful. I'm witholding five stars until I have a chance to do a 10 mile day hike with them up some California mountain.
