Ranked #298 - Shovels
January 6, 2010
I've been doing backcountry skiing for only 2 seasons, counting on my friends to dig me out if necessary. Finally got a shovel to use in an emergency. So far I've used it only to dig out a car stuck in a snow bank and to dig out my mailbox, and to practice using it, but it cuts easily through packed crud, and despite its size, I could move quite a bit of snow quickly. I can understand how some people would want a bigger shovel, but if it's between carrying a shovel or not, this seems like a great choice. And when you are not off piste, it makes a great emergency shovel for your car.
