The best of the best of the best

By Ranked #1 - Telemark Bindings December 28, 2009

So everyone on this wall would agree, it seems, that these are "the best" telemark binding available. This is an understatement. I have skied Voiles, G3's, Cobras, 01s,02's, '03's, NTN and Bomber Bishops. The only thing that comes close is the Bishops or NTN. NTN is cool but I won't be getting rid of my T1's anytime soon. Bishops are great, too, but they aren't making them anymore. That said, if you find a pair of Bishops, scoop them up!
So that leaves the 22 Designs Hammerhead, or the Bombshell for the ladies.I rock the fifth position and love them for backcountry, inbounds, and on my groomer skis. I initially had a pair of 02's on my 4frnt TNK's, and couldn't deal with the floppiness. After one day on those worthless BD's, I put an original set of Rainey Designs Hammerheads on 'em. There is no comparison to be had here. Hamerheads gave me an incredibly increased amount of control- night and day difference, I tell ya'.
Hammerheads keep your heel lower, therefore keeping your stance tighter and improving your form. The increased "activity" of the bindings pulls your heel down faster, so your turns are snappier. The increased length of the toe-box wings keeps lateral movement down.
The multiple position options will help you get used to the new action if you're switching from a softer binding.
Position 2 feels like a G3, Rottefella, or Voile. 3 is comparable to a BD 01 or 02. With a rid stiff it's like a 3.5.
Position 4 will feel like the rug has been pulled out from under you if you try to ski them like your old softies.
Position 5- Super powers will ensue shortly. Your skiing will be taken to another level. Lines that would be certain wipe-outs are now shreddable.
Stiffy springs- For those who dare. Put 'em in to get less spring travel at position 4, or go for 5 and experience unmatched activity and control on the stiffest skis and burliest lines.Positions 4 and 5 and stiffy springs will demand the use of a larger, stiffer boot.If you have big skis, and big turns in mind, these are for you.
Ditch the softies and ski an epic binding. Your skiing will never be the same.
