I have owned and currently own several pair of Merrell shoes. They are my "go to" brand. Always awesome, always a size 9, always waterproof. Maybe it was just a defect in this particular shoe but I wore them in a rainstorm and they failed me. water started seeping in around the toe area and it didn't take long for my whole foot to be swimming. Luckily, I was in the city. If I had been out hiking my feet would have suffered for sure.

Don't worry about the defect. I had a pair of Merrell Moab GTX's that the gore-tex failed after 18 months of use and Merrell replaced them with a brand new pair.
