The Twistlock should be used over a standard carabiner but not in place of a "locking" carabiner. It only has one twist to open and could potentially be opened by a rope or other inadvertent incident. The twist lock carabiners that require a twist and pull down prior to opening are superior as well as a screw gate carabiner.

Twistlock Carabiners are nice and all but if your in a sandy area... like Joshua Tree. You won't have a working carabiner once sand works its way in. FYI.
