hood will fit if you're a lifesize...

By Ranked #50 - Men's Softshell Jackets October 31, 2009

...bobblehead! i went and tried this on at the backcountry.com store. the hood is ridiculous — WAY too big, even if you do wear a helmet. i mean you really can't wear the hood without a helmet. i guess it's good that the hood is removable.

however, i wasn't too impressed with this jacket. i'm 6'1", 170 lbs. i normally wear a medium in jackets, coats, sweatshirts, shirts, whatever, but this medium was way too short in the sleeves and body, BUT way too big volume-wise in the torso. i tried it on over my hooded sweatshirt and i still could've smuggled a small midget underneath. this thing looks so sharp in the photos (looks like it should have a more tailored fit to it), but the photos misrepresent the product. the photo makes it look like it should be a taller, more slender (athletic cut) fitting jacket. i'm assuming this isn't the normal fit for all MHW coats, as i own one of their down coats in a medium that fits just fine.the colors aren't represented well in the photos either. i tried on both the tiger and the pesto. the pesto is more of a forrest green in person (the photos make it look a little more muted/army green). the tiger is a much brighter/obnoxious orange in person.

this review is based mostly on fit but that can play a huge role in functionality. so if this jacket fits your body type, there's a chance you'll dig it. although i still think the hood is a joke, and they also need to put in wrist gaiters, and a tweak few other design issues.$340 seems like it should buy you a custom, tailored jacket that fits all of your needs.

DOES ANYONE MAKE AN AWESOME FITTING, AWESOME LOOKING SHELL (PREFERABLY SOFT) THAT BREATHES WELL, REPELS WATER, HAS A POWDER SKIRT AND WRIST GAITERS?
