After trying several different hiking shoes, I bought the Merrell Moab and I am very happy with them. I put them on and within half an hour had forgotten them completely---it felt like I had worn them forever. No break-in needed. The shoes are light weight, they breathe well and are comfortable pretty much from the get-go. After I have covered a good number of miles, I will report back about durability.
