now that I have this I take it even if I don't plan on eating a meal on it. I have used it for a solid base for my stove, a place to set stuff in the snow cave that I did not want to get wet (camera, dry food etc). It is so light and is the sides are short enough still that you can slide it pretty much anywhere in the pack. Great item.
