Great Shovel, Sucky Probe
By silas shirley

This shovel is definitely a good buy. It's sturdy and efficient. I haven't had to rescue a friend with it thankfully, but it worked great on all exercises and practice rescues in the avalanche safety course I took this year. The probe however sucks. It's small diameter and only 6' long. It takes forever to put together since it doesn't autolock and has to be screwed together...even with practice and 6' just isn't long enough. If my buddy has a probe this short, I'll let him carry my Black Diamond 300 in his pack...and I'll carry the six footer. Great shovel, but buy a real probe!
