Mixed feelings about this shoe

Ranked #1133 - Men's Trail Run Shoes

I bought the shoe based solely on the Gear of the Year review. I use it extensively 25K/wk trail runs in the Pacific Northwest.
-shoe is exceptionally light
-lug style sole offers good footing, though as previously stated, road work causes quick detioration.
- This NOT a shoe for the stability challenged.
- Narrow toebox with an awkward constriction at the end of the stride
-solomon lace system is just downright great ...some hate it I know.
-Water is NOT your friend with these
-exterior wears really well...better than the sole!
-low cut ankle, aside from little stability control, is a easy-in for dirt and debris. Running on true trails (not just chips) turns the inside of the shoe into a petri dish of found creatures and plants.

you're totally right: 1) this is not a shoe for road running. Road is very abrasive and has rthe same effect on the SpeedCross than on snow tires. The reason is a softer compound and big lugs. 2) this is not a shoe when you need extra stability: we have better than those in the Salomon range, with XT Wings or even more stable, the XA Pro 3D 3) not waterproof as all the shoes that don't have a Gore-tex membrane or waterproof bootie inside but... - this is an exceptional shoe when superior grip is required - this is a very comfortable and agile shoe - this is a "race ready" beast if you look for speed - this is a great solution if you're a forefoot type of runner
