Double-knits from the '70's

These are not the pants I remember seeing last season but maybe my mind is slipping. Where is the "double-layering" on the knees and butt? It's not there on the ones I received. There are seams where a second layer might occur but there is only a single layer. The thin material and baggy bottom legs reminds me of "Stayin' Alive." I tried on pants locally to get the right size but the XL that arrived was much longer and baggier. I had to hem them 3.5" and I am 6'2". Rear pocket is not secure, front hand pockets aren't either--everything falls out of them when I sit. The pants need belt loops because the cynch buckle is badly designed and bound to fail. I am puzzled what these pants are intended for. Bouldering/rock climbing? Not likely. Backpacking? Maybe. Hot weather travel? Also maybe, but prAna has far more functional and better looking pants for that. I should have returned them but didn't. Sorry prAna. I already have better pants for a far lower price.

OK. I gave it one more try...I like these pants that much. I ordered black this time, and to my good fortune they are like my original 2007's...tough, lightweight. They are not as thin as the earth color I had ordered before which turned out to be disappointingly thin. So maybe the thin ones were fakes? Doesn't matter, these new black are back to form and I'm happy!

You pose the same questions on my mind. The quality when compared to '07 pants is very inferior. Unfortunate because they used to be fantastic pants, rugged but lightweight, but no way as thin as these. And, YES!, where is the double-layering on the knees and butt? So different in quality I seriously thought these to be counterfeit. I'm in search of better...anyone have any recommendations?
