Lost my previous headlamp while hiking somehow... and had to have another by the weekend. I've been getting into mountaineering, so I wanted one that would give me a lot of battery life, but still give me a lot of light. I purchased this one, and although I haven't taken it on an alpine start, it is awesome for night hikes. The lowest level is more effective than the highest level on my older headlight (Petzl Tikka Plus) at evenly distributing very usable light, and the high setting amazes me with how far I can actually see. It is really comfortable on my head (I would say even more comfortable than the Tikka Plus; less weight up front). The programmable lighting levels are a definite plus.

An update to my story... the RXP stopped working completely while I was boat camping in Havasu. As far as I know I didn't get it wet at all. It started turning itself off, then would turn on again for a second or two, flicker, and go out again. Petzl replaced it FOR FREE because it failed within the first year. Although I'm disappointed at the failure, I would still recommend this light.
