Very good shoes for finicky feet

I have very, very finicky feet. It takes a long time for a pair of shoes to become friendly with my feet - even with my orthotics inserted.
These Vasques were something of an exception. They gave me grief for just under a week. I was about to send them back and get some more Salomons, but then the stars aligned and they became my dog's best friends.
First off, they fit like a glove. The upper part of the shoe is probably the most comfortable thing I've ever had on (sandals excepted). The BOA lacing system is literally a quantum leap in shoes. With this system I can micro-adjust the shoes to any level of comfort I desire. (Warning: Do not let your sadistic, eleven-year-old son access the BOA system while you're wearing the shoe - he will ratchet them up so your toenails pop off....)
The issue I was having was that the midsole and outsole were a little too stiff for me. This was leading to some plantar faciitis [sic?] issues that, once it shows up, never seem to go away. A healthy hike here on the Wasatch Front seemed to loosen everything up.
Now they feel great.
To top it all off, I (along with my wife) hiked Mauna Kea last week. My hike was in these shoes and they performed flawlessly. I am very, very happy with - and can strongly recommend - them.
