Gear Review
Practical but not for petite women

Ranked #44 - Women's Rain Jackets
March 27, 2009
I looked high and low for a rain jacket that was long enough for sitting down in wet areas and stylish enough for city living. I love the Port color of the Marmot Destination Jacket, which I bought based on the stellar reviews. However, I disagree with the other reviewers about the fit. It might be great for a certain body type/height, but I would say this jacket is not for you if you are a size 2 or 4. I'm between 115 and 120 lbs (I fluctuate), 5'3", and this jacket was too big in the Extra Small. The shoulders are much too wide, and the body overall just has too much material in the width. If I used the waist adjuster in the back, it only bunched up and looked weird because of all the excess material. It also does not adjust very small. I tried wearing this over my thick wool peacoat and it was still much too bulky. I'm sure not everyone has this fit problem, but I wanted to send a warning out to other petite women. FYI, I do not have a "slender" bone structure or narrow shoulders by any means. I am medium to robust in my bone structure for my height/weight. It's nice-looking and functional, and I really wanted to love it, but it should fit a range of normal sizes for that price.
