Bought these for my boyfriend. I read that if you have athletic legs to go a size up...so, I did so. If you have a thick waist, maybe so....but the size up (XL in our case) was way too big. They did not seem tight around the leg by the zipper for us at all----and he does have "thick", athletic legs. I tried on the womens in a 6, which is what i usually wear...and the womens were tight; however, the mens didn't have the same effect for Jeremy.
