I planned on using this for a two week backcountry trip in Japan. It seemed like a great idea, but in reality the mouthpiece was either frozen or leaking. After a couple of days of being incredibly thirsty or wet, I went back to using a water bottle.

I rarely have my CamelBak freeze up and I use it all winter in Colorado. Here is a trick I have learned. Always drain the water in the hose back into the reservoir. Don't fill the reservoir totally full, especially if you are using it in a pack where the reservoir is being compressed. Keep the end of the hose inside your jacket and the hose close to your neck.
