When I think of a fleece jacket I typically think of a jacket that is thick not heavy but soft and plush. This jacket is soft and slightly plush but by no means is it thick. It is very thin for a fleece and I made the mistake of wearing it in the upper 30s and froze. However, It will stop the wind...it is very good at that. I would say this jacket is a great fall piece. Definitely not a winter piece so dont buy it thinking it will work past october...and october in chicago (depending) can get windy and cold. This is for those cold late August nights thru maybe October jacket. It is around 600g so it might be considered a mid weight jacket but the insulation isnt good past 45 degrees. It has an athletic cut and wrist straps to tighten it up. It is also a gore windstopper...so it will last!! I would really rate this a 3.5 star but backcountry wont do 1/2 stars.
