Stylish yet not good for super-cold climes

I ordered this jacket from another retailer as I thought it would be sufficient for the -40 windchills of Chicago, but when I received it, there was a small hole in the left shoulder already and so returned it. Good thing I did, because as I was researching for somewhere else to buy it from, I found several reviews indicating that it was too lightweight for truly cold temperatures. Which is sad, as this coat fit like a dream, looked great, and had an excellent texture. Not for Chicago, but appropriate for places that don't get much colder than the 'teens. (I tried on the Large, which fit my super-long arms and torso while allowing for a shirt and thickish cardigan underneath. I'm 5'8", 160 lbs)

Erin, try wool or other thermal layers. The cotton layers just don't add up to the same kind of warmth that you'll get from a fabric that is intended for insulating. Good luck! Stay warm!

Well, I concur with the lady from Chicago. I live Vermont and JUST bought the coat yesterday after being on a waiting list, and today it's only 35 degrees and I WAS COLD in the coat!! With an undershirt, a long sleeved tee, and a cotton Polo crewneck sweater underneath!! If I'm cold at 35 degrees with three additional layers, how cold will I be when it's 20 below?! I wore it all day thus can't return it!! :(

But Boston does not get as cold as Chicago. The wind in the city can get wickedly cold. I found the review helpful.

I don't agree as long as your layered correctly this jacket will keep you plenty warm in the cold. My wife raved about all last winter...here in Boston.
