They are not Ski Poles

Ranked #772 - Trekking Poles

OK, so I'm with two other females and three males for a winter weekend backpacking adventure in the Big South Fork of Tennessee. It was slushy and frosty from all the rain and precipitation. However, I was the only one with trekking poles (translated-smart one). After figuring out how to adjust them at home two days before my trip (highly recommended) I had no fear of ruts, holes, or slippery places cause the poles stabilized my trek. Along with that the poles have a "shock absorbent" feature to cushion the stride. One guy asked me on the trip if they could be used for skiing...ahhhh neophyte, "non-renaissance" man.
