Excellent Ski, I couldn’t be happier

By Ranked #22 - Big Mountain Freeride Skis January 13, 2009

If you are just skimming this review GET THIS SKI it won’t disappoint.

Disclaimer: I am no ski review expert but have been skiing for over 30 years, ski Front Range Colorado area; here is my 2 cents worth.

After many weeks of struggling as to which ski (and length) to purchase, believe me I tried them all, I finally pulled the trigger on the ObSETHeds and I couldn't be happier.

I'm 6'1, about 190 and ended up purchasing the 179cm ObSETHeds as I get older I've gone toward a shorter ski, with my everyday ski being a 177 Mantra.

My main motivation for purchasing this ski was for better performance in the softer snow / powder but I didn't want to get a full on Powder ski.

Conditions on my first day with the ObSETHeds were about 1 to 1½ feet of fresh powder WOW I had a perma-grin on my face. I honestly couldn't believe how responsive the skis were and how easy they were to turn. Rockered skis may be the way of the future.

Skiing the ObSETHeds took much less effort. I'm 50 years old and after a full day of hitting it, my knees, legs, back, etc. were much happier than they would have been if I had been skiing the Mantras.

My only concern after that first day was that I could have gone with the longer length.

But now having skied the ObSETHeds about 6-8 times in most all conditions I am for the most part happy I went with the 179s. These skis do great (at least for my style of skiing) in everything including hard pack, wind blow, even tight bumps! I am really surprised at their versatility. They hold an edge well with little to no chatter on the hard pack /front side getting me back to the parking lot. + They have excelled in all of the back-country conditions I have encountered.

I am going to find it very hard to go back to my mantras. As a matter of fact I may sell them and purchase a big fat power ski to complement the ObSETHeds on those BIG powder days for my annual CAT ski excursions.

FYI: I mounted Fritschi Diamir Freeride AT bindings on them
